Let me give you an idea of what usually happens. Legions of young men sign up every year to build muscle and lose fat. For some it’s to impress the girls, others want to excel on the athletic field. The motivation behind their decision isn’t what matters. What matters is they made a decision to physically change. That’s a good start, but nature requires something more – a lot more than just gym visits. The problem is this: Most people are just “winging it” in the gym.

His biceps aren’t getting any bigger either, in some cases they’re getting smaller (due to over-training).

The fact of the matter is this: The best bicep builder in the world, is the humble chinup. The reasons are numerous (recall NMA from above), but it’s also because it works the bicep from origin to insertion (shoulder to elbow)– something no curl movement can claim. Due to much greater NMA, it doesn’t take 16 sets either. In fact, it takes a modicum of that to grow big guns – especially when you understand how to pair it with tricep work.
