Help With Sore Knee Issues

Question

I have some old knee issues from my football days. It doesn’t keep me from training but I can feel it getting out of bed in the morning. Later in the day it doesn’t feel as bad. In fact, it doesn’t hurt at all. After I train though, it’s killing me again.

Any idea on what it is, or is there something I can do for it?

Answer

This isn’t uncommon and it gets worse with age. The fact it gets better as the day goes on points to something to do more with a soft tissue injury vs. skeletal.

Your best bet would be to get it x-rayed at a sports medicine clinic, to get an accurate diagnosis. I rather doubt it’s anything that requires surgery, but it’s always best to know for sure.

I have the same issue with a knee that’s still healing from an injury 6 months ago. Bruised some tendons badly while wrestling.

It doesn’t bother me at all during the day. But every morning when I get out of bed I can feel it. It’s stiff is the best way to put it, but like you once I get some blood flow in it – it’s good to go.

There’s a chance your knee will heal given enough time. Tendons have notoriously poor blood flow, which is part of the reason they take so long to heal. On a positive note, my elbow tendonitis has cleared up nicely, I can’t even feel it anymore (used to be sore to the touch). That took over a year though, and the same may be true for your knee.

Knee Exercises

There are a few exercises that might help you. First, I usually rail against the leg extension but it’s a worthwhile warm up, in my opinion, for the knees.

Second, one legged bodyweight squats whether hanging onto a rope to assist you or free standing are an excellent rehab and strength building tool. I can’t tell you how helpful these were in recovering from my injury.

Finally, pushing a weighted wheelbarrow up a slight incline does absolute wonders for knees. I wish I could tell you why, it just works..

You’ll for sure benefit from MetaCurcumin as it’s a terrific pain reliever. As effective as most other OTC NSAID’s, with incredible health benefits to boot. In fact if I were to recommend one herb it’d be curcumin for its wide ranging health benefits.
